Information on the SSAT Preparation, Review, Course, Class, Tutoring
SSAT Preparation and Review are intensive. Between SSAT sessions, students are assigned supplementary SSAT homework to prepare for review sessions. Students may review approximately 12 official practice tests and more than 2,500 SSAT questions.
SSAT students can access Official SSAT Examination Information, SSAT Test Registration, and download and take a full length free SSAT practice test on the SSATB website. If you choose to enroll in one of our preparation classes or private tutoring review sessions, the SSATB free SSAT practice test will serve as the diagnostic.
Students should plan their preparation and review ahead of their scheduled SSAT test date. Generally, SSAT preparation and review course spans six to eight weeks in the period leading to the SSAT administration. We suggest that the students write the SSAT once to score their best with adequate preparation and review so that they have the most competitive SSAT scores and standing when they apply to independent schools. If a second sitting is desirable, students may wish to extend their SSAT exam review and preparation.
The Secondary School Admission Test Board provides official SSAT questions and priorly administered SSAT tests. Elmscott & Haxeleigh SSAT Preparation, and SSAT Review focus on official SSAT material, and prepare SSAT students for the scheduled official SSAT. Pertinent additional SSAT assignments and review material are available to supplement the SSAT Prep and Review.
Students can learn the SSAT material and attain the skills necessary for success on the SSAT. Prior testing history, general reading skills, and academic background have relevance to the ultimate performance on the SSAT; however, with structured review, students are able to improve their SSAT scores when they have remedied the deficiencies that may have been caused by improper academic training, previous SSAT instruction, and ultimately, lack of solid strategies that work best for them- not one standard approach. After the initial diagnostic, our expert instructors are able to identify the proper course syllabus to get the SSAT students ready for their SSAT prep and review.
We offer customized SSAT teaching, tutoring lessons, preparation and review for traditional students, and for non-traditional students who have learning difficulties and disabilities that require accommodated SSAT testing. The pace of the SSAT Review is adjusted to address the needs of the individual SSAT student. In addition, highly competitive teachers are available to coach students who want to score a high percentile. SSAT is a skills-based test; however, with preparation, SSAT students can improve their SSAT scores.
SSAT is often a pre-requisite for independent school admissions. Admissions and Financial Aid Offices emphasize the SSAT scores and base their decisions on a combination of factors including the composite and sectional scores on the SSAT, the number of times a student has taken the SSAT test, and the improvement of the SSAT scores between the SSAT tests. Multiple SSAT scores may be averaged, older SSAT scores may be ignored, or the most recent SSAT score may be weighted heavily. We do not advise students to write the SSAT until they have reproducible scores in and above their target SSAT score range in multiple SSAT official practice tests during the SSAT course.
Official SSAT exams are administered throughout the academic year. Some students find the summer and fall seasons ideal to prepare for the SSAT in depth and review at their own pace before the admissions deadlines that may span Fall and Spring semesters. We offer SSAT preparation courses, lessons, tutoring and review any time during the academic terms and summer. Accelerated SSAT preparation and review lessons may be structured and delivered upon request.
SSAT Verbal Reasoning section will examine skills in logic, reading, and analytical thinking. With focused SSAT Verbal Reasoning review, students can greatly enhance their SSAT score. SSAT Reading Comprehension section will present questions to examine fundamental skills in reading, critical thinking, and comprehension. SSAT Quantitative Reasoning section will test proficiency in numbers, algebra, geometry, probability, and statistics. The SSAT Essay section will not be scored, but the Independent School Admissions will be provided with a copy of the applicant's writing sample, so it is important that a strong SSAT writing sample is composed for future review by independent school admissions.
